ALTHOUGH it is a re-enactment of ingenious and brave sub-sea exploits in World War II, "Hell Raiders of the Deep," the Italian-made import illustrates once again that truth is indeed stranger than fiction.

Despite an unnecessarily flamboyant title and a somewhat obvious American-language sound track, the adventure is both serious and engrossing and a revealing tribute to the dauntless men who risked their lives via these explosive tactics.
